Hello, I
recently purchased from a secondhand shop in Eastbourne East Sussex an old
garden fork with the makers mark that appears to read either SAAGNAS OR SAAGNIS
& SONS STOURBRIDGE. Can you shed any light on this company, where it was
in Stourbridge, when ceased trading etc etc? I would be very grateful if you
can help me. Thank you.
Kind Regards. Jim Clowes. Northheath@aol.com

Hi,
I was wondering if you could tell me whether the building of the 1st Southern
General Hospital, Stourbridge Section still exists and where it is or was.
A great-uncle of mine was treated there in April 1917 after being injured
in France. Did any records survive from that time?
Are there any photos available of the hospital either at that time or any
other time?
Many thanks for your help. Best wishes, Rachel

I
am trying to trace names of local musicians who accompanied silent films at
the Scala Cinema, later known as the Savoy, in the nineteen twenties. Or anyone
who had relatives working there at that time. It is common knowledge that a
Mr Paul Rimmer directed the orchestra on the opening night in 1920but who else
was playing and continued to play? The only other name I have is Doris Giles
who was an usherette there at the time.

Hi,
hope you can point me in the right direction. At our museum we have several
large cast iron containers marked with ‘British Ordinance 1858’
on the front but with ‘G. Robinson, Stourbridge’ on the side. We
are trying to find out about the manufacturer ‘G. Robinson’ and
their role with the British Army. Do you have any suggestions as to where I
can extend my information search?
Thanks, Derek

My name is David Law from Queensland, Australia. I am currently in
possession of my grandfathers blacksmiths vice and on it is stamped
"I. NASH & SONS

ENGLAND"
The bracketed letters represent the other possible letters, it is a bad stamp
so difficult to tell. Also, the V contains an 'i' inside. Any information
you can provide will be great.
Thanks you very much, David Law

Hello! I'm writing from Brazil, San Paulo, SP.
I'm an architect and we are restoring the site of a San Paulo Gas Company,
1890, were an english group built the first gasometer of San Paulo. The site
is nowadays protected by Department of Historical Buildings. After years of
abandon, we are restoring the english features of the buildings. It is an
important presence of the english culture and industrial heritage in Brazil.
I found a yellow brick during our works, with the inscription: "J.B.
Fisher & Co - Stourbridge", an I decided to look for more information
about, or at least to inform people interested in Stourbridge history, that
we have "earth of Stourbridge" in the basement of our gasometer!
I wanna know if someone have any idea about this "J.B. Fisher & Co".
Why bricks are sent into Brazil? If someone want to know more about that,
email me, please. Thanks a lot, arch. Luís Antonio Magnani restarq@uol.com.br

Hello web site visitors, I have recently moved into a new home in Lawrence
Street Stambermill, Stourbridge. The street is a mixture of Edwardian, Victorian
and now, modern houses. I am looking to learn more about the street, perhaps
you may have lived nearby as a child and have fond memory's of playing near
to the Stour and the surrounding areas. My own house stood derelict for a time,
so you may have explored my garden. Any old photographs would be a real bonus.
Thank you for taking the time to read and get your thinking caps on. Melanie

site in particular, The Eden Browne Estate, we found oven bricks with the name
RUFFORD STOURBRIDGE stamped on them. I believe the time period would have been
around 1690's. Can any one tell me about this brick company? |

Dear
Sirs, I recently found three old firebricks, stamped as follows:- E. J. & J.
Pearson Harris & Pearson Trotter, Haines & Corbett Ltd I would like to know
when these companies existed, eg 1866 until 1934, especially the dates that
the companies closed down. I live in South Australia, in a suburb of Adelaide
called Mitcham, and these firebricks were found on an old quarry site which
was active around 1840 - 1860. The stone quarried was used in the construction
of St. Michael's Anglican Church, Mitcham, between 1848 and 1852. Yours Faithfully,

Can I ask a couple of questions ? Is there a Wollaston War Memorial or are
the names all contained on a Stourbridge memorial ? Other than the census
were there 'directories' published from 1900 on ? Here there were commercial
directories in most communities that listed names and addresses and were used
in business in various ways. Would the Library have copies ? I have discovered
that my Grandfather had two brothers who outlived him, he died in 1948, and
were completely unknown to the family apparently ! My wife says we are a weird
family ! Please don't go to any trouble in this. Sincerely, Francis Smith,
Canada
