| I
am trying to trace names of local musicians who accompanied silent films at
the Scala Cinema, later known as the Savoy, in the nineteen twenties. Or anyone
who had relatives working there at that time. It is common knowledge that a
Mr Paul Rimmer directed the orchestra on the opening night in 1920but who else
was playing and continued to play? The only other name I have is Doris Giles
who was an usherette there at the time. Michael Robert, Stourbridge (Rec'd 23rd Feb 10) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

At our museum we have several large cast iron containers marked with ‘British Ordinance 1858’ on the front but with ‘G. Robinson, Stourbridge’ on the side. We are trying to find out about the manufacturer ‘G. Robinson’ and their role with the British Army. Do you have any suggestions as to where I can extend my information search? | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi there, I am a manager at Wyncroft Nursing Home in Kingswinford and we are about to open a new unit for people with dementia related illnesses Just 8 beds.I would like to know if you can be of any assistance in providing us with a history board with some information and pictures of the old Round Oak steelworks as a lot of Kingswinford people would have worked there sometime in their working lives. The idea would be to stimulate memory and encourage people to talk of the past. Can you help me please? The unit opens in December. I am hoping to get a little publicity too for the home by mentioning people who help in the local paper so that I can thank people. yours sincerely wendy averall manager (rec'd 7th Nov 06) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello web site visitors, I have recently moved into a new home in Lawrence Street Stambermill, Stourbridge. The street is a mixture of Edwardian, Victorian and now, modern houses. I am looking to learn more about the street, perhaps you may have lived nearby as a child and have fond memory's of playing near to the Stour and the surrounding areas. My own house stood derelict for a time, so you may have explored my garden. Any old photographs would be a real bonus. Thank you for taking the time to read and get your thinking caps on. Melanie (May 05) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Does anyone have any information on the Wollaston School in Bridgnorth Road, noted on the 1771 census of Stourbridge? Was this a 'dame' school, do any records exist? It seems to have disappeared by the 1881 Census - did it become part of another school? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks for your help Pam J (Rec'd 21 Feb 05) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

| ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The West Midlands Historic Buildings Trust (see www.wmhbt.org.uk) is in the process of restoring the former office building of the Harris & Pearson Company in Brettell Lane, Brierley Hill. The Trust has just created a website about the company - www.harrisandpearson.info - that provides some background information. We're trying to piece together a history of the Company, so we'd like to hear from anyone with memories of working there or with any other information about the Company. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

| The island of Nevis, in the Caribbean, has numerous historical sites. We are in the process of clearing many of these sites and restoring some of them. At one site in particular, The Eden Browne Estate, we found oven bricks with the name RUFFORD STOURBRIDGE stamped on them. I believe the time period would have been around 1690's. Can any one tell me about this brick company? | ![]() |

E.mail address wcottage@poetess.freeserve.co.uk I have bought a large victorian colliery managers house and the porcelain victorian bath was made by Rufford &co Stourbridge. I wondered who they were and if they are still there?? I would be grateful for any information....Jan Price -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Sirs, I recently found three old firebricks, stamped as follows:- E. J. & J. Pearson Harris & Pearson Trotter, Haines & Corbett Ltd I would like to know when these companies existed, eg 1866 until 1934, especially the dates that the companies closed down. I live in South Australia, in a suburb of Adelaide called Mitcham, and these firebricks were found on an old quarry site which was active around 1840 - 1860. The stone quarried was used in the construction of St. Michael's Anglican Church, Mitcham, between 1848 and 1852.
