Forgotten Stourbridge

Stourbridge Conservative Club

Doesn't sound a very rock n roll sort of venue - but it was in the 60's! This is one of the venues that local rock star Robert Plant used to play in his pre Led Zeppelin days, as frontman of The Banned. I never went but I do recall school friends at the time saying they saw him play there. Anybody know more? Send us your stories!

The Conservative Club building is right opposite the Police Station on Stourbridge Ring Road, it is empty now and in a rather sorry state.

The front part of the building is quite elegant but there is an unsightly extension at the back, presumably where Mr Plant and his contemporaries performed.

Apparently the building is to be demolished, which seems rather a shame, so is this another old Stourbridge building that should be preserved? There is big demand for office space in Stourbridge, this could be an ideal building for that purpose.
